Band In A Box Use

SongWriting with Band In A Box takes you to a whole new level. PG Music built Band In A Box so it is simple to use and has a series of tutorials to help you on your way. Here's an example of BandInABox features and below is an example of how I use it to write songs.

I try out several styles for the type of song I want to write. I listen to them and decide what the feel is I want to the music. I chose a style that has a straight or even feel.

I then try out the styles I like at different tempos. Band-In-A-Box makes this easy. It's amazing how the tempo can change the entire song you write.

I then make some decisions about what time measure I want. Most people use 4/4 so I like to play around with 3/4 or 6/8 or even go wild and try out 5/4 or 7/4.

Mixing them also makes your song very unique. But don't go wild. you need to know what you are doing. If you're a beginner stick with 3/4, 6/8 or 4/4.

I then decide what key I want my song to be in and choose that. However its very easy to change keys with a click. It's also easy to change the tempo with just a click.

Now that the PGMusic has added Real Drums to numerous styles the sound is really great. What I often do is pay attention to the base and drums in each style because you can easily strip down the sound by click buttons to include or exclude the various instruments.

You can also change what instruments are used in each style from a drop down menu. Some of the instruments sound "iffy" while others are great.

The beauty of Band-In-A-Box is you can just type in the chords you want to use in the bars where you want them. Hit "play" and you have a band playing you song with all the settings you selected. You can also change them on the go.

There are numerous melody and harmony features available. I don't use them to much as I like to write my own. However you could and modify it to make the melody you own.

Band-In A-Box allows you include intro and outros, drum fills, copy and paste, and set up how many choruses you want. It also tells you how long the song is.

If you play with the tempo you can see how it changes the length of your song. You can also set the length of time for your intro.

I don't use the feature of adding my lyrics but you can and it's easy. It also prints out perfect sheet music for all the instruments you select in your song.

I use it to do my rough cut demos. I'm not a recording engineer so I've decided to keep it simple and stick to songwriting.

Its simple to export a file to recording software like PowerTracks or others and manipulate it. Power Tracks is PG Music's companion recording software.
