City Girl Loves Country Music - ( version 2) - Country

by Sue Moss
(Wrightwood, CA)

CITY GIRL LOVES COUNTRY MUSIC lyrics

I ain't a coal mine daughter
or an angel from the south.
I have a sweet confession
that I want to sing about.

I'm straight from New York City
where rock-n-roll's the sound
and jazz & new age music
are heard for miles around.

(Chorus)
So tell me what I'm supposed to do
when all my friends just love The Who
Ain't never heard of Emmylou.
And Waylan's just a thing to do.
Help me find the country dial.
I'll walk, I'll run a country mile
Through bluegrass roots in cowboy boots.
This one-way jam we'll reconcile.

I was brought up in the city.
A different kind of world
left out in the cold and snow
with Tammy, George and Merle.

Dreams about the Opry
where songs are what you feel.
If you're on your way to warm LA
head back to Bakersfield.

(Chorus)

The man in black can walk my line.
I cry the tears of Patsy Cline.
I'm sweetheart of the rodeo
and sing a yodel-ay-he-ho.

I'll learn to play the steel guitar
I'll wail and won't be bashful.
Sing it plain, hop on a train
and head on down to Nashville.
