City of the living Dead lyrics (rock)

by Matt

City of the living Dead lyrics

Little village in the mountains
Far away from modern world
The gauchos don’t go there
They call it City of the Living Dead
Small houses along the streets
Decaying into dirty dust
Sun is burning merciless
And stormy wind is whipping hard
Ah you don’t know don’t know don’t know don’t know

Old woman in a swaying walk
Is limping to the broken well
Her gray thin dirty hair
Is hanging tangled on her hunched back
Her toothless rotten mouth has lost
The laughter for eternity
Her body’s a decaying lump
Of lacerated flesh and skin
Ah you don’t know don’t know don’t know don’t know

A vulture in majestic flight
Is circling in the cloudless sky
He’s there from first shy sunrise light
‘Til fiery purple sunset shades
He’s watching each and every step
She makes with cruel indifference
She knows him well she feels no fear
Seems sometimes not to notice him
But now….

She raises up her crippled hands
She’s lifting up her rotting face
High in the air with pleading eyes
She cries out with heartbreaking voice:
“Oh vulture herald of the death
Come down and cut my sighing breath
Sink your cruel claws deep in my throat
And end my misery right now”
Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on!
Come on! Come on! Come on! Come on!

When the blue shroud of the darkness
Covers all the land and sea
She sinks down in her dusty bed
Of loneliness and misery

The moon is shining pale and sweet
Through broken windows’ panes
And slipping in a deep blue sleep
She dreams herself away
And she’s back
To a beautiful day about 30 years ago
In the blossom of her youth
A radiant girl in a thriving town
Her pretty face
Was caressed by the sinking sun with golden rays
The whisp’ring breez’ softly played
With black strands of her beautiful hair
And a dark strange rider
Raced on his black horse out of the gloom

When he shot just a glance from his wild dark blue eyes
She knew she would love him ‘til she died
He led her like a trophy
To the altar one bright summer day
In the gloomy twilight of a hot wedding night
She surrendered to him with a smile

But he carried cruel disaster
Deep inside his body yet
From a red patch on his finger
Where the skin was dry and dead
Death ate into his strong members
Leaving him limp and decayed
Soon it seized her pretty body
And the entire town with her
People with distorted faces
Wastin’ away in deep despair
Small white church fell into ruins
White houses into disrepair
Death crawled through the little streets
No stranger came here any more
Black vultures from the cloudless sky
Fell on the human meat with greed
With greed! With greed! With greed! With greed!
She knows she’s the last one in this town

Spoken:
The grey morning light shines through the broken window
She gets up she limps out of the decaying door
Step by step on her weak dying legs on her daily walk to the broken well
Suddenly a hoarse cry sounds right above her
She looks up and sees the dark vulture sitting on the roof looking at her
He is so near that she almost can touch his black feathers
A shiver runs down her rotting back
But she goes on one limping step another step another step another step…
She sways she can’t go on she falls down on the stony ground
She crawls she crawls she crawls !
Suddenly her weak hands give way she breaks down
The death crawls up her legs her arms her heart’s beating wild the sweat runs down her frightened face
A last helpless sigh and her lifeless body sinks down into the grey dirty dust on the street
A huddled lump of decaying flesh!
The black vulture glides elegantly down aside her
And starts to do his sad awful duty…
