Be a muscian first!
by: Chris

Song writing is key with any musician. Without a good ear your more than likely will not be able to stay in the industry all that long. Practice and learn to read music...don't let your ego get in the way.

Yes and No
by: Doc Haley

Yes the lyrics come first.
But you have to write lyrics that can be sing/sang/sung to music.
Therefore they need to come hand in hand.

No one, absolutely no one, writes a set of lyrics that do not finally get changed in the end to fit some sort of music. Plus the singer may have a root chord that he or she is more comfortable with so even that may change and does frequently.
