I strongly agree with the first comment.Stand by your own intuition and what you feel is right.

I've been writing for about 2 years.I write whatever comes to my mind,I can't sit down and make myself write. It just dont work out right.

I've gotten some really good compliment's from my family, friends, and producers. My songs are very unique, and I feel that I am uniquely talented.I charge about $80-$200. I have a feeling I should charge more.Specially since reading the first comment.

I have read that big artists charge more than $2,000 per song.

Hope this helps =)

As a songwriter you should charge a fee to write lyrics to a song. This a question I asked myself before my first placement... You can charge based on the hours it take to write the song. Charge a rate you feel is comfortable.

Songwriters usually charge based on how popular they are. As producers do as well. I encourage you to stand behind your work and don't be afraid to charge what you feel is fair as a new writer and the amount of time you put into your work.

Songwriters are entitled to mechancial royalties, performing fees, and publishing. These fees are collected by your publisher. If you do not have a publishing deal, you are your own publisher. You should have a publishing company set up through ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC. Make sure you agreement states the percentage of the song you own. Also make sure you have a lawyer review the contract agreement before signing. Always file coprights for your songs and DO NOT SELL YOUR COPYRIGHT.

Make sure to research as much info as you can about this business, and songwriters rights. This will help you not get taken advantage of as a new songwriter.
