How She's Kicking My Rhoids won 10th in Contest

Well I was just fooling around one late night and I got out a short song I wrote about Late Nights and Early Sunday Mornings with nothing to do. I had purposely written the song with two obvious cliches and worst of all the songs time line made no sense at all. It was sappy and had a three chord melody CW upswing but sad lyrics. So I sent it in. The reason was just to waste time and see just how real was this contest. Five days later I got a letter on cheap letter head proudly informing me that I didnt win first place but I think it was 10th place or maybe lower. The writer was telling me by entering and winning I would be provided with professional support to improve my song and an agent to promote it and me! All for the small sum of $500 dollars to do a copyright search and pay for professional printing of sheet music.

I wondered if this contest company was also located in Nigeria. Anyway there was an actual adress and a toll free number to call to discuss my good luck and my bright future. But since the others had Aldo been informed could I call back after 6pm?

And it was signed. Mr Morris Professionsal Agent to future Stars! I did call the operator to make sure there were no charges if I called the strange toll free number. I had read of the 877 or 866 numbers for sex phone lines and this was one that charged 29.95 per call and two dollars per minute. What jerks. I wrote them a note and faxed it to the contest telling them thanks but no thanks I've an agent already and his company will rep me and my song.
I couldn't believe what happens next. I get a letter faxed to me 25 mins later from this contests law firm telling me that I can decline their offer but that rotten song is now their property and I'll be sued if I attempt to sell it or record it anywhere.
So this con must have gotten some really good songs entered to get that nasty and quick response. It was clear they didnt know who I was or what I wrote. Because a few more days passed and their lawfirm faxes me offering to sell my rights back to be fair. They didn't want to hurt the creativity of some young new songwriter. Meaning they read the junk I sent in. I decided to not rub their nose any further in the stink so I let it drop.
There must be 100 cons out there per 1 real song contest so be careful and copywrite your songs before doing anything with them.
