Have you been dying to write a great song? Do you want a major recording company to cut it? Most songwriters have the fantasy of getting a "top ten" hit? Some make it come true, but its not easy.

It can happen but you must have your songwriting act together as its a big ocean and you're competing people who are as efficient as sharks at finding ways to write hits. Even if its a tough road that doesn't mean you can't walk it. You're unique and if you learn how to write song lyrics that are great you'll have a shot.

Your listener will have listened to two minutes of your song by now. You have to provide a break for their attention so they don't get bored. Again test it against the chorus to make sure it closes the message you're building in your song. It should compete the story by leading back to the chorus.

Now you start to rewrite and hone your lyrics, rhymes and images. Find the pieces you've written that stand out as strong. Work on the whole song, don't be afraid to throw things out that don't work or that could be said in a stronger way.

Make sure the line length and stressed syllables count of your second verse duplicates the first verse so the same melody will fit both verses perfectly. Try to make the line length different between the verses and chorus.
