I got to this conclusion after a lot of looking around and trying songwriting programs. For me its simple, The program has to look and feel natural to how I would normally write a song with a pen and paper. By that I mean how the program flows. The reason is that I use the Pat Pattison phonetic rhyme family system to find rhymes. Normally when working with my pen I have my little chart on a piece of paper I use as the bible for searching for words. It’s a slow but tried and true system for finding that special rhyme based on what the lyric needs. When I choose a rhyme I look for the type of rhyme that fits perfecting into the amount of stability I want. Why am I talking about all this, well MasterWriter 2 uses the family rhyme system to come up with rhymes. I find it very intuitive and easy to use. No other songwriting software uses this family rhyme system. That alone sells me on MasterWriter. Just do a rhyme search and then select the x-wide rhyme option and a whole world to family rhymes opens up. A feature I also like and use a lot is to be able to duplicate the version of the song I’ve written so I can work on the latest version and save the old one. This is very valuable as I can go back at any time to check lyrics I’ve used and set aside. Sometimes I will drag them back into the song if I can’t find something to beat what I had written before. It doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll end up using the lyric. It helps me raise the bar to a higher level and then keep raising it as I get closer to finishing the song. Another reason I’m sold on MasterWriter is its incredible database of pop culture items, food, drinks, place and people names. Using power words creates powerful images in your writing. MasterWriter 2 is very intuitive songwriting software when I’m searching to find words to paint magic and emotionally charged pictures in the song I’m writing. In songs you need images to be very specific and unique. Using the same old place names etc get stale fast. Pop Culture provides amazing resources that you can scan to find the name to fit perfectly with your song. |
