Music Theory Online

Music theory online will make your music theory and songwriting lessons pay off. Make theory part of your songwriting course to be a better writer. There are many ways for you to understand and enjoy music and songwriting.

You might be classically trained and able to teach the rest of us a thing or two about the technical aspects of music. Or maybe you learned by ear and can play anything that someone throws at you.

Most of us aren’t in those leagues nor do we have to be to enjoy playing and writing songs. In a perfect world you would understand everything there is to know technically and by ear. Have you noticed that being great at one doesn’t automatically mean you are good at the other way of playing.

How many friends do you know that took piano lessons as a child and play quite well? But without sheet music they have trouble playing for a singsong or with players who play by ear. The same is true those who play beautifully by ear and are stuck when they need to play from sheet music.

There’s no correct answer to this. Don’t worry we all have things to learn and started out not knowing how to play an instrument. The question is where to start and what will get us to where we want to be with the most amount of enjoyment. Is learning music theory online for you?

If you know exactly what you need to improve as a musician, that’s great. If not, here are some questions to ask yourself. How much do you know about music technically or by ear training? How well to you play now? What is it that you want to do with your music and realistically how good do you want to become?

You also need to be honest about how much you will study or practice, I mean honest not just hopeful. To get better you need to schedule some time for yourself each week and stick to it.

I recommend you make the amount of time realistic. Use short time blocks like 15 minutes for music theory online. It’s hard to argue that you don’t have the ability to find 15 minutes of time each day or at least three times a week. That’s all it takes.

Do that for a period of three months and you’ll be surprised what it will do for your understanding of music or your playing.
