Black and white glimmers with contrast. Pictures jump out at you and grab you. They take you places in your mind. The photograph doesn't have to be of anything you've ever seen, you can jump there, be there - live it. The ocean lapping at the edges of the frame, spilling onto your desk - your eyes can smell the sea breeze, the sand the faint smell of fish a few days old. You can hear the ebb and flow of the waves as the gently crash and recede coming and going like life and love, good and bad, fear and peace. In the black and white of the beautifully aged tree working hard to hold it's branches high fighting gravity, you can feel the strain as the wind blows through the branches challenging and trying the old man. Perhaps a hundred years old and the rings of time to prove it. What has this old man seen? No colors to taint the emotion just shades of black and white. You can taste the despair, a little dry in your mouth. Dare you stand under the tree? Will the old man judge you? A rough bark from years of weathering the seasons, and a few misguided carvings to make sure you remember that Robert loves Jenny forever. The sap like tears dried but stained in his skin forever, wonder if Robert does indeed still love Jenny after all these seasons? The full color photo, vibrant, alive - moving and dancing before your eyes! The tassel cocked to one side, the radiant smile - a misty wetness in Mom's eyes. The big thumbs up! She made it! She did it! The exilleration takes you there, a lump in your throat - you can jump and scream too! The smile transfers to your face - stretched with excitement - all the feelings rush back to you and are yours. Oh - those were the days...
