Rhyme Dictionary - Standard Version

Rhyme dictionary is not the only way to find rhyming help. A standard dictionary will work if you don't have a rhyme dictionary. It will harder to easily find rhyming words and sounds.

A standard one like Marriam-Websters etc is set up alphabetically without special care for sounds. This means you will have to dig through listing after listing to find words that will work.

The good news is there are thousands and thousands of words. You know what? I have resorted to doing the extra work to make sure I make my lyrics as unique as possible.

You're at your Aunt Martha's and the song inspiration of the decade hits you. All your songwriting material is at home but you have to write. Has something like this happened to you? It has to me.

Hopefully if you are in need you at least will be able to get online to get your fix of rhymes. If not, here's what I do.

I dig out the old trusty Websters etc. that everyone has and start plowing though it. Wow, all of a sudden the people who took the time to write a rhymer change from a boring researcher to a literary genius.

So that's it. You basically start to read sections in search of rhyming inspiration. More than once I've been side tracked by all the interesting words I find.

There are many techniques like Pat Pattison's family rhyming to help you understand what to look for. The more you know your way around the techniques the easier it is to finds words.

The old standards like Websters are just not as sharp a tool for rhyming. You'll also notice how much more focused the rhymers are. They eliminate many words that are not conversational or just don't make sense to put in most songs.

Want to know a secret? This is what I do. I pack a small romance novel size Marriam-Webster rhymer in my suitcase or car all the time. The small ones don't have as much in them but they sure beat the alternative.
