However it is possible to win song writing competitions. I won the Broadjam Nov. 2007 lyric writing contest, pocketed $250 and got recognition with a photo and short write up in their newsletter. There you go, winning also gives you shameless bragging rights. Check out one of many songwriting contests

The same song "Louise Leave Louisiana With Me" also was a county finalist in the Dec 2007 contest at Song Of The Year. Check it out.

How does winning song writing contests really make a difference? Recognition is what you make of it. There is personal satisfaction and I can tell you from experience, real recognition is hard to come by and hard to judge what it's worth. Winning song writing competitions is proof you have something going for you as a songwriter.

Winning also gives you promotional material and bragging rights. Some contests will give you free write ups and promotional material. You can get this even if you are a runner up or honorable mention.

Each contest usually has different categories for the different genres of music. However some song writing competitions are specific to a genre or location. There are a few big ones that offer large amounts of cash and prizes.
