Soundsnap

Soundsnap sound effects library is a great resource for songwriters where you can get free sound effects, music loops. Some are free loops to get you into a creative state.

Its a full library of great high quality sounds and audio loops. Its a membership site but you can get free membership and five free effects downloads each month.

They have over 100,000 high quality sound effects and loops. Go to their site and search the music category of a loop that is right for your songwriting and download it.

Here's a technique to use their samples other than just using it in one of your productions. Import the sample into one of your recording programs and built it into a loop that replays its self over and over. 15- 30 minutes should be plenty.

Use the loops as a background to your songwriting while searching for melody ideas or play an instrument over it to noodle and improvise. Just let the creativity flow.

Record your brainstorming session to another track and let the sample draw new ideas out of you. They won't all be great. but don't worry. Some will sound fresh and new, worth building on.

Try different samples effects over the same lyrics etc. and see how the feel of the sample can change how you are improvising over it. You will be surprised a change in feel will change what you create.

Its a brainstorming tool to help you take your songs to the next level.
