stop staring at the paper! (i mean it, let go of that pencil!)

by kalina

stop staring at the paper! (i mean it, let go of that pencil!)

stop waiting for an idea to come in a snap! ideas come in time! you need to take a small break sometimes just to walk around.

id recommend keeping a notebook with you at all times. you never know when songwriting gold strikes you and you have no where to write it! trust me, it happens. once i had this amazing idea, i could even hear my name being called to accept a grammy for it, and when i looked around for paper, i couldn't find any! then the idea slipped from my head. you don't want that to happen, do you? i remember one time in english when i wrote a song on a tissue... which brings me to my next point.

dont write songs during school! believe me, your english teacher will find you and read it to the class, then stick it in the recycling bin. then you'll go through the rest of the day with EVERYONE in that class telling their friends and asking "who was that for? can you sing it for me? was that a poem or a song? sing it, sing it!" it's not very fun. only do that if its the last day of school, then you have the summer to forget the experience.

write songs in a quiet space. when your sisters are talking about some movie they're watching, you will write down their conversation and lose the idea.

if you're good with lyrics like me and not good at melodies, its ok to just write rhyming phrase! the perfect melody will come streaming through your ears in no time! which is why you should keep something like a recorder to hum the tune so you don't forget it! also, make sure not to listen to a song with a great melody and accidentally use the same melody in your song, then you will have to start from scratch. it happened to me with the VERY FIRST song i ever wrote. and i still sing it sometimes, while listening to taylor swift sing the melody ;-).

keep writing my dear! if you can dream it, you can do it, as a famous dude once said! and if you don't make it to the top with your songs, then hey! at least you tried and gave it your all! these songs last a life time, and you can go out there and just make it work!

i love you for even looking at my writing above! just remember when your sitting somewhere staring at a blank page, im probably doing it too. you're not alone, im here and so many others are too. just dream it.

good luck out there my dears!
