The Sergeant At The law
Keen and wise. He remembered and knew all the convictions, common and recorded since King William's time. He would write a contract so explicit. Not any man could trace a fault in it. He knew every law by rote. Often at the St. Paul's Porch. He was a man who wore many a robe. He was a lawyer and a judge in the court, in assize, by Royal Assignment or Commission giving Jurisdiction. He seemed busier than he was. He was rich and a great land. He was so rich that his fees were simple to him. He rode a horse in a simple medley coat with a silk belt with bars wrapped around his waist.
