Unmissable Workshop! How To Succeed As A Songwriter At the beginning of the year I made a resolution to take my writing seriously and my brother told me about a songwriting workshop that was being advertised on Facebook. I went along and even though most of the people there were music producers or had their own labels, we were all in the same boat - trying to become better songwriters. The tutor that day was Carla Marie Williams who was one of the writers at Xenomania and wrote hits for Girls Aloud, Alesha Dixon, etc. The energy in the workshop was awesome and I couldn't believe that, even with my almost non-existent knowledge of commercial songwriting, I was able to make a meaningful contribution to the writing process. That workshop was a turning point for me because previously I'd felt as if I was stumbling around in the dark with my attempts at songwriting, yet now I had resources and a definite direction. I even made new friends and contacts who have helped me take my writing to a whole new level. I look back now at what I was writing eight months ago and cringe at the thought that I would ever have dared submit it to anyone. I've just learned that another workshop is scheduled for 28 August, this time the tutor is a top music producer and songwriter called Anthony Marshall. He's flying in from the US to do the workshop and has worked with artists such as Sheila Ferguson from the Three Degrees, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Milian, Wyclef Jean, Isley Brothers, K-Ci & JoJo, LL Cool J, Craig David and Simply Red. If you're as frustrated a writer as I was, I'm sure this workshop will help you open doors as it did for me. The company hosting the workshop is called Elite Voices and it seems they hold all their workshops at the famous Premises Studio in East London.
