There's alot u gotta do
by: Brandon v

Legally you are allowed to make "cover work" because they are compelled to let you. But what you are doing is a "derivative" work by changing the style and chords. You must contact the artist/publisher and record company and ask permission by all 3 of them.

Contact the publisher, should be seen on the back of the album cover or somewhere else, and ask for their permission.

It's not always given.

Anyone can re-do someone elses song or do what we call "cover" it. But production and sales falls into a legal avenue.

You might even ask them if they'd be interested in being your publisher, if you ever work with one.

If it's real real real good, they might take you on.
